What is the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup

One of the most important and watched cricket competitions in the world, the ICC Men's World Cup draws millions of spectators from across the world. It has witnessed a number of noteworthy events, exceptional performances, and heated rivalry between cricketing nations. The competition has given rise to famous cricket players and significantly influenced the development of the game.

The number of competing teams and the format have changed over time. The number of teams was constrained in previous editions, but it has steadily increased to accommodate more nations. Ten teams competed in the 2019 edition, which was held in England and Wales. In 2023, India will host the following iteration.


Since its debut in England in 1975, the ICC Men's World Cup has taken place about every four years. The competition involves of a series of One Day International (ODI) matches in which each team plays every other team in a round-robin group stage before moving on to the knockout rounds and final.
