The Cricket ICC ODI World Cup’s fixtures have been released. The countries competing have been announced.
10 teams across the globe will compete and only one country can walk out victorious. Here I will assess each countries teams in depth.
Sri Lanka
ICC ODI Ranking: 8th
Recent ODI form (last 6 matches): 6 wins and no losses.
Sri Lanka has a great cricketing history and has experienced significant success in the Cricket World Cup. They won the tournament once, in 1996, and advanced to the finals twice more, in 2007 and 2011. Sri Lanka has been a constant contender in the tournament, noted for their fighting spirit and ability to do well in important cricket tournaments.
Sri Lankan cricket has produced legends such as Aravinda de Silva, Sanath Jayasuriya, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Kumar Sangakkara. They have frequently had great individual performances, which have contributed to their victory in the Cricket World Cup.
While Sri Lanka's recent performances have been inconsistent, they still have quality players who can make a huge impact. Players like as Kusal Perera, Dimuth Karunaratne, and Wanindu Hasaranga have demonstrated promise and have the ability to excel in future competitions.
Historically, Sri Lanka's bowling attack has been powerful, with spinners playing an important part. Their spinners have been able to efficiently exploit subcontinental conditions. They've also got fast bowlers like Lasith Malinga, noted for his destructive yorkers and ability to take wickets.
Sri Lanka will need to focus on constructing a balanced team, developing consistent performances, and improving their fielding standards in order to boost their chances in future Cricket World Cups. They will also need to work on preserving team management stability and addressing any internal concerns that may be affecting their performance. Sri Lanka will begin the World Cup with a tough game against Australia and finish the tournament against New Zealand however, before the World Cup begins, Sri Lanka will be participating in the Asia Cricket Cup against teams like India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
